Her er deler av en rapport som RK selv har laget:
"After close to 3,5 Million kilometers driven and 58.500 MT distributed (= 16.500 trips) 192 of the original 200 M-621 trucks are still operational. The 8 lost are not because of technical reasons, but merely drivers’ faults. The total operational running costs of the trucks from the time they arrived to their destination countries until end of 30th June 2003 is CHF 4,195,437.39 or, USD 3,120,881.-. Cost per ton moved is USD 53.40 whatever kilometer driven (Exchange rate 1 CHF = 1.34 USD). Truck cost per kilometer driven equals to USD 0.89.
The cost may seem high, but considering the terrain in which they have been operated, where no commercial truckers would go, the only other option would have been airlift. There is no doubt that the trucks with their off-road capability have had an impact on the overall operation and possibly saved lives and avoiding internal population movements. The M-621 trucks are maintenance demanding (more than 30 years old), but easy to perform, mostly by the driver himself. Its multi-fuel capability was proven when Zambia experienced fuel shortages and the operation continued using kerosene. Spare parts, especially consumables (filters), was thought to be a problem, but are available from South Africa. Engine brackets as well as other parts were made locally".
Og en liten digresjon:
"In the Western province we had a truck that got stuck on the shore of Zambezi and recovery was not possible due to the rising water. It was left there, submerged as a submarine, for about 2 months. Once the water subsided it was eased out of the mud by the recovery vehicle, filters were drained, new fuel filled and off it went. (It later had a complete cleaning and service done.)
At a distribution in Luangwa in March the village chief thanked on behalf of the population for the food. He said there hadn’t been a truck in the village since 1964".
